Duplex 2205 is a two phase ferritic austenitic 22 chromium 3 molybdenum 5 to 6 nickel alloyed stainless steel. Its high chromium and molybdenum content gives the stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance. The microstructure provides resistance to stress corrosion cracking and ensures high strength. Applications include chemical processing oil and gas exploration marine and other high chloride environments and paper digestors.

Saf duplex 2205 stainless steel uns s32205 formerly known as uns s31803 and commonly known as alloy 2205 has a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite and is a two phase alloy based on the fe cr ni series. This combination allows the alloy to be stronger and tougher than standard austenitic steels. The standard duplex s31803 composition has over the years been refined by many steel suppliers and the resulting restricted composition range was endorsed as uns s32205 in 1996. It finds applications due to both excellent corrosion resistance and high strength.
